About Endodontist

About Endodontist

What is Endodontics?

Endodontics is the dental specialty focused on the inside of your tooth — specifically the dental pulp (the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels) and the roots that anchor your tooth to your jaw. When the pulp becomes infected, inflamed or damaged from deep decay, trauma or a cracked tooth, an endodontist saves the tooth instead of extracting it.

The most common procedure is root canal treatment (RCT). Modern root canal treatment is nothing like the painful procedure of decades past. With rotary endodontic instruments, dental microscopes, advanced anesthetics and 3D CBCT imaging, today's root canals are typically painless, completed in a single sitting, and have success rates of 95%+ long-term.

At Sureshwari Elite Smiles, every endodontic case is handled personally by Dr. Akshay Chandra Dadhich — a specialist with 15+ years of experience and thousands of successful root canals. The goal is always the same: save your natural tooth, eliminate pain, and restore full chewing function painlessly.

Why You Need It

When You Might Need a Root Canal

Tooth pain isn't normal. Here are the signs that mean it's time to see an endodontist.

For Severe, Lingering Tooth Pain

Pain that wakes you up at night, throbs continuously, or lasts more than a few seconds after hot/cold food is a classic sign the pulp is inflamed or infected. Don't ignore it.

For Sensitivity to Hot or Cold

Lingering sensitivity to hot drinks, cold food or even air — especially when the pain continues for 30+ seconds after the trigger — usually means the pulp needs attention.

For Swelling or Gum Pimple

A bump or pimple on the gum near a tooth, facial swelling, or a bad taste in the mouth indicates an abscess (infected pulp draining pus). This needs urgent treatment.

For a Darkened or Discoloured Tooth

A tooth that has turned grey, dark yellow or black — especially after an old injury — often indicates the pulp inside has died. Root canal can save the tooth.

After Tooth Trauma or a Crack

A sports injury, fall or biting on something hard can fracture the tooth and expose the pulp to infection. Same day endodontic evaluation can save the tooth.

How long it takes

How Long a Root Canal Takes at Sureshwari Elite Smiles

Most root canals are completed in a single sitting of 60–90 minutes. Here's exactly what happens.

01

Diagnosis & 3D CBCT Imaging

Duration - 15–20 minutes

What we do: Clinical examination, digital X-ray and (when needed) 3D CBCT scan to see the tooth's internal anatomy in full detail. We confirm the diagnosis and explain the treatment plan before starting.

02

Painless Local Anesthesia

Duration: 5–10 minutes

What we do: Topical numbing gel followed by local anesthesia. You won't feel the injection thanks to the gel — and within 5 minutes the tooth is completely numb. Patient comfort comes first.

03

Access & Cleaning

Duration: 30–45 minutes

What we do: A small access opening is created in the tooth crown. Using rotary endodontic instruments and irrigation solutions, we remove the infected pulp, clean the canals thoroughly, and disinfect the entire root system. Modern rotary files make this faster and more precise than hand files.

04

Filling & Sealing

Duration: 15–20 minutes

What we do: Once the canals are perfectly clean and dry, they're filled with biocompatible material (gutta-percha) and sealed permanently. A temporary filling closes the access opening.

05

Crown Placement

Duration: 1–2 visits over 1–2 weeks

What we do: A dental crown protects the treated tooth from fracture. We recommend porcelain, zirconia or ceramic crowns for back teeth. Without a crown, root-canal-treated teeth are at higher risk of breakage.
